A brief description of SMS

• The SMS service allows the sending and receiving of short text messages (a maximum of 160 characters), from a GSM mobile phone to another GSM mobile phone or from Information Centres.

   

• The person receiving the message will also know the phone number of the sender and the time at which the message was sent.

   

• Message reception is always free.

  1. The mobile phone must have the SMS/MO (Mobile Originated) function.
  2. One must input the phone number of the Message Service Centre of one's operator in the messages area of the menu of one's mobile phone.
     
     

   

• The sequence of operations necessary to enter into the message writing, reading, erasing and enabling area, varies from phone to phone. It is therefore always necessary to consult the telephone user's manual to learn the correct procedure.

   

• The sent message will be delivered in a few seconds time if the receiver's phone is on and inside the range area. If the phone is off or outside range area, the network will try to redeliver the message in a maximum period of 48 hours. Once this period has elapsed the message will no longer be delivered.

   

• Messages should always be erased after being read, so as not to saturate the memory capacity of one's mobile phone and SIM card. If messages are saved in the memory till the latter is full, it will not be possible to receive other messages till the existing ones are erased.
